A detective superintendent is paid on the superintendent scale, which is set by the Police Remuneration Review Body on the same September cadence as the federated ranks but negotiated separately. There is no distinct detective rate.
The scale is the widest in policing below chief officer level: four points spanning over £15,000. That matters for take-home in a way the gross figures do not show, because the upper end crosses £100,000. Above that point the Personal Allowance is withdrawn by £1 for every £2 of adjusted net income, producing an effective marginal rate of 60% on that band until the allowance is gone entirely at £125,140.
Pension contributions reduce adjusted net income, so the point at which the taper begins to bite depends on the scheme and contribution rate in force. The table above models this rather than approximating it, which is why net rises more slowly than gross across the top of the scale.
