How regional pay variants are applied
Met Police / City of London: federated ranks get London Weighting £3,150 + London Allowance £6,588 = £9,738 (April 2025 rates). Inspector / Chief Inspector use the bespoke London pay scale + £6,588 LA. Superintending ranks get £6,588 LA only.
South East forces (£3,000): Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Surrey, Thames Valley — federated ranks add £3,000/year on top of national basic.
South East forces (£2,000): Bedfordshire, Hampshire, Sussex — federated ranks add £2,000/year.
Standard England & Wales: national basic only, no regional uplift.
Police Scotland / PSNI / BTP / CNC / MoD Police: these have separate pay scales — v1 of the calculator uses the E&W scale and surfaces a clear caveat; check your latest payslip for the exact figures.
PPS 2015: Up to £27,000: 12.44% | £27,001-£60,000: 13.44% | £60,000+: 13.78%

Estimate indicative mortgage borrowing
Range based on a 4.0× to 4.5× multiplier of your annual gross income — the typical loan-to-income range UK lenders use following the 2014 Mortgage Market Review rules. Some lenders cap at 4.0×, others stretch to 4.5× for higher earners or with smaller deposits. Indicative only. Lenders also assess credit score, deposit, existing debts, dependants, and stress-test affordability at higher interest rates. Your actual mortgage borrowing capacity will vary.

How does London pay work for Met and City of London officers?
1. London Weighting (£3,150/year) — paid only to federated ranks (Constable, Sergeant). Pensionable, paid as a flat allowance. Inspector / Chief Inspector use a bespoke London pay scale instead (no separate LW). Superintendent and above don't receive LW.
2. London Allowance (£6,588/year, effective April 2025) — paid to all federated and superintending ranks (Constable through Chief Superintendent). City of London Police pay this to match the Met. Pensionable. ACC and chief officer ranks have separate force-level arrangements.
The calculator stacks both automatically when you select "London" as Force Location. Total Met / City uplift for a federated officer: £9,738/year on top of national basic. For Inspecting ranks the bespoke London scale already includes the equivalent uplift over national basic, plus an additional £6,588 LA on top.
